Tesla has finally entered the Indian market by opening its first showroom in Maker Maxity Mall in Mumbai’s central business district, Bandra Kurla Complex. The showroom, known as an “Experience Center,” features the Model Y in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and long-range RWD versions imported from Shanghai.

### Pricing and Availability
The Model Y RWD is priced at ₹59,89,000 (approximately $68,000), while the long-range RWD variant costs ₹67,89,000 (approximately $79,000). Customers in India can place orders for the Model Y with a non-refundable deposit of ₹22,220 (approximately $260) for registration in Delhi, Gurugram, and Mumbai. Deliveries for the RWD model are expected to begin in Q3, with the long-range RWD version hitting the roads in Q4.

### Expansion Plans
Ahead of deliveries, Tesla plans to establish four charging stations in Mumbai and Delhi, including Supercharger posts and destination chargers. The company is also set to open its second store in Delhi as part of its expansion in India. Additionally, Tesla aims to import cars from its Berlin facility once the India-EU free-trade agreement is signed.

### EV Market in India
India, the fourth-largest automotive market globally, has ambitious plans to have 30% of all automotive sales be electric by 2030. Despite producing nearly 6 million vehicles annually, the country’s EV footprint is relatively small, with a focus on two-wheelers.

In conclusion, Tesla’s entry into India marks a significant milestone for the electric vehicle industry in the country. With plans for expansion and a commitment to sustainable transportation, Tesla aims to capture a share of the growing EV market in India.
