Tech companies are making big bets on nuclear power to support their AI ambitions. However, the nuclear industry is not exactly known for its speed, and this is where Trey Lauderdale believes AI can make a difference.
Lauderdale’s interest in nuclear power was sparked by his interactions with employees from the Diablo Canyon Power Plant in San Luis Obispo, California. Recognizing the abundance of documents in the nuclear industry, he founded Atomic Canyon to utilize AI in organizing and accessing critical information.
After securing a deal with Diablo Canyon, Atomic Canyon attracted investment from notable firms like Energy Impact Partners and Commonweal Ventures. The startup’s focus on using AI for document search in nuclear power plants has shown promising results, with plans to expand into generative document creation in the future.
Lauderdale acknowledges the importance of human oversight in AI-generated documents and emphasizes the significance of perfecting document search as the foundation for Atomic Canyon’s future endeavors in the nuclear industry.
