Axiom Space is gearing up for its fourth mission to the International Space Station (ISS) on Tuesday, June 10th. CEO Tejpaul Bhatia describes this upcoming mission as a “little bit of a victory lap.”
A National Mission with a Global Impact
Ax-4 will be Axiom Space’s second “fully national mission,” with all customers being national governments. This mission will mark the return to human spaceflight for India, Poland, and Hungary, each sending an astronaut on the flight.
Breaking Even and Looking to the Future
This mission will be the company’s first “break-even mission” after previous financial losses. Axiom Space’s long-term goal is to add commercial modules to the ISS, eventually forming the free-flying Axiom Station.
Creating Inspiration and Opportunity
These missions not only generate revenue but also showcase the demand for commercial space travel. Each mission creates inspirational moments for the client countries, marking a transition from Space Race 1.0 to Space Race 2.0.
Axiom Space has partnered with SpaceX Dragon spacecraft for previous missions. Bhatia envisions the company as a “marketplace integrator and broker,” facilitating missions as the commercial space industry expands.
The future of commercial space travel faced uncertainty due to disputes between President Donald Trump and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. However, Axiom Space remains focused on using commercial platforms to bridge the gap to the next stage of space exploration.
Bhatia, relatively new to his role, is optimistic about the future of space travel. With a background at Google Cloud, he brings a fresh perspective to Axiom Space’s vision. And like any true space enthusiast, Bhatia dreams of venturing to space himself one day.
The countdown is on for Axiom Space’s fourth mission to the ISS, marking another milestone in the company’s journey towards commercial space exploration.
