Bluesky, the social networking startup gaining popularity after X’s ban in Brazil, has announced that users can now share videos up to 60 seconds long on its platform. This move aims to enhance the user experience and better compete with other social media platforms.

Decentralized Platform

Bluesky, designed as a decentralized version of X, allows users to post text, images, reply, repost, and message other users. Unlike X, Bluesky gives users the option to set up their own servers, choose their algorithm, and decide the level of content moderation they prefer by subscribing to independent moderation services.

Key Features

With native video support, Bluesky can now autoplay videos by default, with the option to turn off this feature in settings. Each post can include one video with attached subtitles. Users are initially limited to uploading 25 videos or 10GB of video per day, with possible adjustments in the future.

Enhanced User Experience

Bluesky has taken steps to reduce video spam by requiring users to verify their emails. While adult content is allowed, users can label videos with adult content for filtering. Videos violating community guidelines can be reported, potentially impacting the user’s ability to upload videos further.

Bluesky’s support for video uploads will be gradually rolled out to users to ensure server capacity. This feature complements previous app updates, including in-app video and music player support for third-party content, direct messages, personalized Discover feed, tools to hide replies, and more.

By introducing video support, Bluesky aims to create a more engaging platform for discussions on various topics, from news and politics to pop culture and sports.
