One of Europe’s leading AI startups, Multiverse Computing, has launched two incredibly small AI models named after a chicken’s brain and a fly’s brain. These models are touted as the world’s smallest yet high-performing, capable of handling chat, speech, and even reasoning tasks.
### Tiny AI Models for IoT Devices
These miniature models are designed to be embedded in Internet of Things devices and can also run on smartphones, tablets, and PCs without the need for an internet connection. Founder Román Orús stated that the compression technology used allows the models to fit on various devices, including iPhones and Apple Watches.
### CompactifAI Technology
Multiverse Computing’s success is attributed to its CompactifAI technology, a quantum-inspired compression algorithm that reduces the size of AI models without compromising performance. The company has already compressed popular open source models and recently unveiled compressed versions of OpenAI’s new models.
### Introducing SuperFly and ChickBrain
SuperFly, a compressed version of Hugging Face’s SmolLM2-135, is likened to a fly’s brain in size. It is ideal for on-device uses and enables voice commands for home appliances. On the other hand, ChickBrain, a compressed version of Meta’s Llama 3.1 8B model, boasts reasoning capabilities and outperforms the original model in various benchmarks.
Multiverse’s Model Zoo aims to provide powerful yet compact models for a wide range of applications, attracting interest from major device manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, and HP. The startup also offers its compression technology for image recognition and has secured clients such as BASF, Ally, and Bosch.
By focusing on making models smaller without compromising performance, Multiverse aims to revolutionize the AI industry and provide cutting-edge solutions for various applications.
