Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced his intention to continue working with the Department of Government Efficiency throughout the remainder of President Donald Trump’s second term, despite growing pressure for him to distance himself from politics. Musk revealed his plan to reduce his involvement with DOGE to just a few days per week starting next month, emphasizing his commitment to the President’s agenda and the usefulness of his contributions.
During Tesla’s quarterly earnings call, Musk acknowledged that political sentiment, along with increased competition and Trump’s tariff policies, has negatively impacted the company’s sales. This admission followed a significant drop in profit compared to the previous year, partly attributed to Musk’s role in the Trump administration.
Criticism of Musk’s government work has intensified, with one of Tesla’s prominent supporters warning of a “code red” situation if the CEO did not scale back his involvement. Despite facing global protests and accusations of dismantling government agencies, Musk has defended his actions, alleging that protestors are motivated by financial incentives without offering any evidence to support his claims.
As Musk declared that the primary work of DOGE is complete, signaling a potential reduction in his responsibilities, questions remain about the extent of his engagement as a “special government employee.” With no immediate response from the White House, Musk’s future involvement in politics remains uncertain.
