Tesla continues to dominate the American-Made Index (AMI) for 2025, with their vehicles securing the top four positions on the list compiled by Cars.com. This annual ranking evaluates vehicles that are built and purchased in the United States.

Electric vehicles (EVs) have made a significant impact on the AMI this year, with six out of the top 10 spots being taken by EV models. Alongside Tesla, the Kia EV6 and the Volkswagen ID.4 claimed the 6th and 10th positions, respectively.

Factors such as the location of final assembly, percentage of U.S. and Canadian parts, and the manufacturing workforce in the U.S. are considered in the ranking process. The Kia EV6, for example, boasts the highest percentage of U.S. and Canadian parts at 80%.

While the shift towards electrification in the automotive industry is evident, challenges such as tariffs, higher prices, and the potential end of federal EV tax credits could impact the trajectory of EVs in the market.
