French authorities recently nabbed a Russian basketball player who was allegedly part of a ransomware gang. Daniil Kasatkin, who plays for MBA Moscow in the VTB United League, was detained at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
According to reports, U.S. authorities suspect Kasatkin of also being a ransomware hacker. However, his lawyer claims his innocence, stating that Kasatkin is clueless when it comes to computers.
“He’s useless with computers. He can’t even install an app. He didn’t touch anything on this computer. It was either hacked, or sold to him by a hacker who wanted to pass himself off as someone else,” the lawyer told AFP.
It seems like Kasatkin’s skills on the basketball court don’t quite translate to the digital world. Stay tuned for more updates on this bizarre case!
