Google has announced new features related to PC and mobile gaming in anticipation of the Game Developers Conference (GDC), which include new game titles, control customization options, and developer tools for enabling mobile games to be played on PC platforms. The introduction of Play Games for PC began in 2022 during the beta phase and has since been expanded to various regions, with plans for general availability later this year.

Developer Tools

In conjunction with these updates, Google is rolling out new tools for game developers, such as a dedicated SDK for native PC games on Google Play Games with integrated in-app purchases. Additionally, updates to the Play Console will facilitate the distribution and management of different builds for both mobile and PC platforms. All mobile games will be automatically available on PC through the Play Store, although developers have the option to opt out. Specially optimized games will feature an optimized icon, while others will have a “playable” badge after testing. Google is also adding support for AMD-based laptops and desktops on Google Play Games for PC, with access available from the start menu on PCs from various manufacturers.

New Game Titles

During GDC, Google unveiled new PC-optimized titles like “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad,” “Sonic Rumble,” and “ODIN: VALHALLA RISING.” Thanks to the mobile games porting feature, users will also be able to play titles like “Train Sim” and “Pet Shop Fever: Animal Hotel” on PC. Conversely, Google is bringing some PC titles to mobile, with “DREDGE” and “TABS Mobile” set to arrive on Google Play this month, and the mystery game “Disco Elysium” planned for release later in the year.

User-Facing Features

Google is set to introduce custom controls for PC games, allowing players to customize their controls for a more comfortable gaming experience. Additionally, a game side bar will be rolled out later this month for quick adjustments with support for multiple accounts. Furthermore, tracking and using Play Points on PC will be simplified, with Google offering up to 10x points boosters for purchases, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
