Google Colab, the cloud-based notebook tool by Google, is introducing a new “AI agent” called Data Science Agent. This tool is designed to assist users in cleaning data, visualizing trends, and obtaining insights from their uploaded data sets. Originally introduced as a standalone project at Google’s I/O developer conference, Data Science Agent is now integrated into Colab for direct access from a Colab notebook.

Data Science Agent, now available for free in Colab, targets data scientists and AI applications. It can also help identify API anomalies, analyze customer data, and generate SQL code. Users simply need to upload their data and ask the agent a question. The tool utilizes Google’s Gemini 2.0 AI model family and reasoning tools for feature engineering and data-cleaning tasks.

Currently supporting CSV, JSON, or .txt files under 1GB, Data Science Agent can analyze approximately 120,000 tokens in a single prompt. Google is continuously enhancing the agent’s performance by implementing techniques like reinforcement learning and incorporating user feedback.
