For years, Honda has focused on hybrids, but now it is shifting towards electric vehicles with the Honda 0 Series. This new portfolio of EVs will be produced over the next few years, with the first model set to go into production in late 2025. The company aims to revolutionize vehicle design with a focus on being “thin, light, and wise”.
Seven Honda 0 Series models are planned to be released by 2030, with a target range of 300 miles and fast charging capabilities. The company also envisions vehicle-to-X capabilities for communication with other devices or infrastructure. While pricing details are not yet confirmed, the flagship model is expected to be pricey, with the rest of the lineup likely to start in the low- to mid-$50,000 range.
The technology inside the Honda 0 Series EV includes a new platform with a low ride height and excellent aerodynamics for a fun driving experience. The cars will feature Level 3 automated driving capabilities, by-wire technology for steering and brakes, and a smart UX system that can monitor the driver’s mood. Continuous improvements will be made through over-the-air updates.
The Honda 0 Series features a strong yet flexible frame that uses body flex to increase grip on the outside tires during cornering. Honda has partnered with Hitachi to produce a new eAxle, offering different power outputs. A test drive of an early representation showed promising performance, with quick power delivery and stable cornering. The UX “wise” features, still in development, include advanced autonomy and interior recognition technology. A VR feature showcased a virtual tour of Yokohama with interactive elements. Honda plans to debut these technologies on the next Honda 0 Series concept car at CES in 2025, with a production version expected in 2026.
