A singalong version of the Netflix animated film “KPop Demon Hunters” is set to dominate the box office this weekend, raking in an estimated $18 million to $20 million in theaters. Despite only being in theaters for two-thirds of the weekend, it has claimed the top spot as the No. 1 movie at the domestic box office.

Netflix makes history with this achievement, as it marks the first time the streaming giant has had the biggest movie in theaters. This success comes amidst a relatively quiet weekend for new releases, with “Weapons” being the second-highest grossing movie at an estimated $15.4 million in its third weekend.

The film, produced by Sony Pictures Animation and featuring a predominantly Korean/Korean American voice cast, follows a K-pop girl group that doubles as demon hunters, taking on a rival boy band. The soundtrack’s hit song “Golden” has even topped the Billboard charts and garnered over 400 million streams on Spotify.

Despite AMC Theatres opting out of screening the singalong version due to their exclusive theatrical window policy, the film has still managed to captivate audiences and secure its place at the top of the box office.
