Gabor Cselle, former CEO and co-founder of Pebble, a competitor to X, has recently joined OpenAI to collaborate on a confidential project.

Cselle’s Background
Cselle, a seasoned entrepreneur, previously founded reMail, a Y Combinator-backed mobile email startup acquired by Google. His second venture, Namo Media, a native advertising startup, was later acquired by Twitter before Elon Musk rebranded the platform as X.

Joining OpenAI
Cselle’s journey led him to Twitter as a group product manager and later to Google’s Area 120 incubator. In 2022, he co-founded Pebble with Michael Greer, Discord’s ex-engineering head. Despite its emphasis on safety and moderation, Pebble faced challenges in sustaining growth. However, Cselle’s innovative spirit persevered as he explored generative AI prototypes at South Park Commons.

Exciting Developments
Cselle’s recent decision to join OpenAI coincides with rival Anthropic’s acquisition of Embark founder Alex Rodrigues. Rodrigues, known for leading Embark through a SPAC merger and subsequent acquisition by Applied Intuition, now joins Anthropic as an AI safety researcher.
