PayPal Partners with Global Wallet Companies to Launch PayPal World

PayPal has announced a groundbreaking partnership with global wallet companies to create a new platform called PayPal World. This platform is designed to revolutionize cross-border commerce, making it easier for users to pay others using their local wallets and payment systems.

The launch partners for PayPal World include India’s NPCI International Payments Limited, China’s Tenpay Global (Tencent’s payment arm), PayPal, and Venmo. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding has been signed with Latin America’s Mercado Pago, a fintech company enabling card and mobile payments.

Covering more than 2 billion users worldwide, PayPal World aims to bring together the world’s largest payment systems and digital wallets on a single platform. According to Alex Chriss, president and CEO of PayPal, this platform has the potential to be a game changer in the realm of international money transfers.

Unleashing the Potential of PayPal World

Through PayPal World, users of PayPal and Venmo will have the ability to send money globally, even to non-PayPal users. For example, users traveling in China can use PayPal on the Weixin payment network to pay local businesses. Similarly, customers from India can use PayPal to make purchases on U.S. websites through their UPI wallets.

Tech and VC Heavyweights Join the Disrupt 2025 Agenda

The user base and transaction volume of these wallet systems are staggering. For instance, Mercado Pago reported a total payment volume of $58.3 billion in the first quarter of 2025. In India, UPI transactions surpassed $238 billion in June alone, according to NPCI data.

China’s Tenpay Global is also working on enhancing its remittance framework and facilitating cross-border peer-to-peer payments. Wenhui Yang, CEO of Tenpay Global, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with PayPal World, highlighting the support for users of PayPal and Venmo in making payments through Weixin Pay QR codes.

Looking Ahead

PayPal World is set to launch this fall with its partners, with plans for Venmo users to make online and offline purchases at merchants supporting PayPal payments in 2026. The future of cross-border commerce looks promising with the innovative solutions brought forth by PayPal World.
