Samsung Expanding Wearables Lineup

Samsung recently released its first fitness-focused smart ring, adding to its collection of wearables that mainly consists of smartwatches. According to CNN, the company is now aiming to enhance its lineup by introducing new wearables in various form factors such as glasses, earrings, and necklaces.

Exploring Innovative Form Factors

Won-joon Choi, COO of Samsung’s mobile experience division, expressed to CNN the company’s interest in exploring form factors that enable users to communicate and perform tasks without the need for their phones. Choi mentioned, “We believe it should be wearable, something that you shouldn’t carry, (that) you don’t need to carry. So it could be something that you wear, glasses, earrings, watches, rings, and sometime (a) necklace.”

Earlier this year, Samsung announced a collaboration with Google to develop smart glasses, and reports from the Korea Economic Daily in May suggested that the company was working on an advanced microdisplay for AR glasses.
