After raising $40 million earlier this year, Plex is now introducing a new feature for TV show and movie reviews. This move puts Plex in direct competition with apps like Letterboxd and TV Time, adding a social networking element to the mix. Users can share their reviews with friends on Plex and even friends of friends.

Building on last year’s launch of the “Discover Together” feature, Plex is transforming into more than just a streaming hub – it’s becoming a streaming community. Users can now create profiles, follow friends, and share what they’re watching, bookmarking, and rating.

Initially, reviews are only shared within a user’s network of friends, but Plex is working on an update to allow sharing with anyone on the service. To access this new feature, users need a verified email address and can create reviews from the web interface or mobile apps. Reviews must adhere to Plex’s Community Guidelines. Users can also control which reviews they see by adjusting settings under Account settings.
