Tinder is stepping up its game for new users in California by implementing facial recognition technology to verify profiles. The new “Face Check” feature is aimed at reducing impersonation on the dating app and making sure you’re not getting matched with bots or fake accounts.
### How does it work?
When signing up for the app, users will need to take a quick video selfie. This scan will confirm that you’re a real person, check if your face matches your profile photos, and even detect if the same face is being used on multiple accounts. If you pass the check, you’ll get a photo verified badge on your profile.
### What happens next?
After passing the check, Tinder will delete the selfie video but keep an encrypted face map to help identify duplicate profiles in the future. This feature is already in use in Colombia and Canada, so you can trust that Tinder is serious about keeping things legit.
### Not to be confused
It’s important to note that “Face Check” is different from “ID Check” on Tinder, which is used to verify age and identity using a government-issued ID. So rest assured, your privacy and security are in good hands with Tinder’s latest verification methods.
