Lux Capital-backed Cloaked, a consumer app for user identity protection, has launched an AI-powered caller screening and dark web monitoring feature. The caller screening feature, called Call Guard, utilizes AI to filter out spam or potentially scammy calls without user intervention. This feature is similar to what Google offers for Pixel users and what Apple plans to introduce for iOS 26 users.

Users can still view the full transcript of the call in real time if they choose to take over the call. Cloaked has developed a phone infrastructure for its identity product, allowing users to create new phone numbers to shield their real numbers from scams. CEO Arjun Bhatnagar explained that the AI agent is trained to understand the intent of the caller to combat spam, Medicare calls, political calls, and calls from bad AI agents.

Cloaked not only handles inbound calls but also aims to offer an outbound call facility using AI-bots for customer support calls or appointment bookings. Additionally, the company is working on an eSIM product and has released a dark web monitor for personal data protection. This tool scans various sources like data brokers, breach sites, compromised websites, dark web forums, Discord, and Telegram for leaked user data such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, emails, family members, passports, and driver licenses.

The company alerts users when it identifies leaked data and categorizes them into active/recent events and historical events for users to take action. Cloaked also provides a data deletion program where users can request sites and data brokers to delete their data, with the startup assisting users in removing over 170 million records from the web.

Cloaked has gained over 100,000 paying customers this year and is experiencing strong month-over-month growth. The startup had previously raised $29 million by 2023 and has recently secured an additional $11 million from a mix of existing and new investors. However, the company has not disclosed details of the new funding round and investors, as they plan to finalize the round by the end of the year.
