Wayve and Uber to Launch Driverless Robotaxi Service in London
U.K.-based autonomous vehicle technology company Wayve and Uber plan to launch a fully driverless robotaxi service in London in the coming years. The companies aim to start trials in the U.K. capital and then expand to greater London and beyond. Wayve’s AI technology will be integrated into Nissan vehicles for this initiative.
Partnership Details and Global Expansion
Uber’s strategic investment in Wayve in 2024 paved the way for this collaboration, with the goal of integrating AI into consumer vehicles operating on Uber’s platform. Wayve’s AI technology has been showcased in a project that visited 90 cities in 90 days across Asia, Europe, and North America, demonstrating its ability to operate in different regions without extensive mapping. The partnership between Wayve and Uber aims to leverage Uber’s global mobility network to deploy driverless services beyond the U.K. capital.
