YouTube has recently announced that it will be removing its Trending page and Trending Now list, replacing them with category-specific charts. This change reflects a shift away from a single, all-encompassing list of popular content to showcasing the most popular content in specific categories on YouTube Charts.

Category-Specific Charts

The new category-specific charts will include Trending Music Videos, Weekly Top Podcast Shows, and Trending Movie Trailers, with plans to expand to more content categories in the future. This update aims to better align with the current way trending content is discovered, as trends are now shaped by a multitude of videos from diverse fandoms, resulting in more micro-trends than ever before.

Personalized Recommendations

In addition to highlighting popular content in charts, YouTube will continue to provide viewers with personalized recommendations to help them discover videos they are likely to enjoy. This approach allows for a wider range of popular content that is relevant and feels more natural to how viewers already find new videos.

Viewers can still explore non-personalized content through the Explore menu, creator channels, and their subscriptions feed. The changes are being made in response to evolving viewer habits and the transformation of YouTube over the past decade. Originally known as a platform for amateur videos, YouTube has since become a hub for professional long-form and short-form content from independent creators and established media outlets.

Support for Creators

Despite these changes, YouTube remains committed to providing creators with tools to determine what is popular with their audiences. The Inspiration Tab in YouTube Studio will continue to offer personalized ideas to help creators identify trends for their channels. The platform is also introducing new ways to support up-and-coming creators, such as the “Hype” feature, which allows viewers to promote fresh videos they love.

YouTube will also showcase Creators on the Rise on its official @YouTube social media and YouTube channel. The announced changes are set to take effect in the coming weeks.
