Instagram is currently working on a new feature called “Picks” designed to help users discover common interests. This internal prototype, as confirmed by the Meta-owned social network to TechCrunch, is not yet being tested externally.
Discover Shared Interests
The feature, first uncovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, allows users to select their favorite movies, books, TV shows, games, and music – their “Picks.” Instagram then identifies friends who share the same preferences.

Connecting Through Shared Interests
Although Instagram has not revealed specific details about Picks, the company likely sees it as a way for users to engage more intimately with friends and initiate conversations based on mutual interests.
Looking Ahead
Instagram’s focus on creativity and connection in 2025, as expressed by head Adam Mosseri, indicates a commitment to enhancing user experiences through features like Picks. While not everyone may embrace this addition to the app, the platform continues to evolve to meet user needs.
As with any feature in development, the timeline for an official rollout of Picks on Instagram remains uncertain.
