Meta and CEO Mark Zuckerberg are accelerating the development of their superintelligence technology. The company has been recruiting AI researchers, and Zuckerberg recently announced the construction of a 5-gigawatt data center named Hyperion.
The urgency is evident, with reports indicating that Meta is setting up tents for temporary data center capacity while their facilities are still under construction. This unconventional approach reflects Meta’s determination to enhance its AI capacity quickly, in order to catch up with competitors like OpenAI, xAI, and Google.
According to SemiAnalysis, this rapid deployment strategy prioritizes speed over aesthetics or redundancy. The use of prefabricated power and cooling modules, as well as lightweight structures, demonstrates Meta’s commitment to getting compute resources online swiftly.
Regarding the Hyperion data center, Meta spokesperson Ashley Gabriel stated that it will likely be situated in Louisiana and could reach a capacity of 2 gigawatts by 2030.
