Google has announced the integration of its AI model, Lyria RealTime, into its Gemini API and AI Studio platform. This model, previously powering the experimental music production app MusicFX DJ, allows users to mix musical genres, change instruments, and adjust the mood of AI-generated music. Users have control over key, tempo, brightness, and other song characteristics and elements.

The release of Lyria RealTime via API coincides with a rise in AI-powered music apps such as Udio, Suno, and the recently launched Riffusion. While some of these apps have faced controversy for using copyrighted music without permission, Google positions Lyria RealTime as a collaborative tool for interactive creation, control, and performance of high-quality songs.

Google has not disclosed the pricing details for Lyria RealTime as it rolls out on its API platform.
