App developers can now nominate their own apps to be featured on Apple’s App Store. This new option, announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference, allows developers to promote their app launches, updates, and new features directly through the App Store Connect service.
Empowering Developers
Developers can now inform Apple about three types of updates: new content, app enhancements, or new app launches. Previously, the App Store Editorial team would select apps to feature without a formal process for developers to request consideration.
How it Works
With the Featuring Nominations option, developers can access a nominations dashboard to submit their apps for consideration one by one. They can also upload a spreadsheet for bulk nominations. Providing a memorable name and detailed description of the update is key to catching the App Store Editors’ attention.
Benefits for Developers
If selected for featuring, developers will receive a notification and access to new Promote Your App marketing assets. This will help developers capitalize on their featured position by sharing the news across social media and other marketing channels.
Apple will also provide marketing materials for important app milestones, such as initial launch or new version releases. These assets will include a link to direct consumers to download the app or game from the App Store.
The Featuring Nominations option aims to keep the App Store fresh with new offerings, benefiting both developers and consumers seeking the latest content, updates, and releases. Featured updates can also re-engage users with apps they may have forgotten about, enhancing the overall app experience.
