Scale AI relies on a team of contractors to handle crucial AI tasks for Big Tech and others, but the company is facing legal challenges regarding its labor practices. Former worker Amber Rogowicz filed a lawsuit claiming misclassification of workers and inadequate pay, challenging the contractor status and alleging violations of state laws. This is the second lawsuit against Scale in recent weeks, with the current suit seeking penalties for workers who did AI work for the company.

Bryan Schwartz, representing Rogowicz, stated that it’s common for corporations to attack the messenger in cases like this. He hopes the lawsuit will hold Scale accountable for misclassification and provide relief for workers who have faced wage violations. Scale maintains that it pays fairly and complies with the law, attributing the lawsuit to common legal strategies.
