Google is introducing a range of new features, some powered by AI, to Search, Maps, and Gemini to aid users in planning their summer vacations. These tools come at a time when users are increasingly relying on AI-driven solutions like OpenAI’s ChatGPT for travel planning assistance.
AI Overviews in Google Search
Google Search now offers AI Overviews, providing users with a quick snapshot of information at the top of search results pages to help generate trip ideas for specific regions or countries. For example, users can search for “create an itinerary for Costa Rica with a focus on nature” to access photos, reviews, and an expandable map. It is now possible to save itineraries by tapping “Export” to share recommendations via Docs or Gmail, or save them as a custom list in Google Maps.

Gemini’s Gems in Google
Google is making Gemini’s Gems feature accessible to all users at no cost. Gems enable the creation of custom AI experts within Gemini, such as a trip planner that suggests destinations and packing recommendations.
Hotel Price Tracking in Google
In addition to flight price alerts, Google now provides hotel price tracking, allowing users to monitor price drops for selected dates and destinations. Users can set filters for hotel searches, like star ratings or amenities, and receive email alerts when prices decrease. This feature is launching globally on mobile and desktop browsers this week.

Vacation Plan Organization in Google Maps
Google Maps now enables users to transform screenshots into structured vacation plans. By granting Maps access to their photos, users can have the app automatically identify locations mentioned in screenshots for easy saving and organization into lists. This feature is currently available in the U.S. in English on iOS and will soon be available on Android.
