Google has announced a partnership with Warby Parker to develop AI-powered smart glasses based on Android XR. The tech giant will invest up to $150 million in the consumer eyewear company to bring this project to life.
Joint Development
Google has already committed $75 million to Warby Parker’s product development and commercialization costs. An additional $75 million will be invested if certain milestones are met, with Google taking an equity stake in the company.
Partnerships and Future Plans
At Google I/O 2025, the company also revealed partnerships with Samsung and Gentle Monster to develop smart glasses with Gemini AI and AR capabilities. This move follows Meta’s success in partnering with EssilorLuxottica to create smart glasses, which are sold in Ray-Ban stores.
Warby Parker and Google plan to launch a series of products over time, with the first line of eyewear set to debut “after 2025.” These smart glasses will incorporate multimodal AI and come in both prescription and non-prescription options.
With Google’s financial backing and Warby Parker’s design expertise, the future of smart eyewear looks promising. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting collaboration!
