Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has once again hinted at the company’s highly anticipated HiFi or “super premium” tier, a premium subscription offering first announced in 2021. During the third-quarter earnings call with investors, Ek teased the upcoming product while highlighting Spotify’s advancements in video offerings and AI-enhanced products.
## The Long-Awaited Super Premium Tier
Since unveiling plans for a deluxe version of its Premium subscription years ago, Spotify faced delays due to licensing issues. However, Ek confirmed that the premium tier offering CD-quality, lossless audio is still in the works. In July, Ek mentioned a potential monthly cost increase to $17-$18, offering users more control over their music and improved audio quality.
## Expanded Focus on Superfans and Video
Recent reports suggest that Spotify is broadening its deluxe offering to include features beyond just audio. Collaborating with major record label UMG, Spotify aims to create a subscription tier tailored for super fans, providing benefits like early access to new music. The expanded partnership with UMG also includes more promotional tools, improved distribution, and access to music videos.
## Creator-Focused Initiatives and AI Innovation
Ek highlighted Spotify’s creator-focused event in LA, where the platform will introduce new video expansion efforts. Spotify is working to help creators reach a wider audience while incentivizing them to bring their content to the platform. Additionally, Spotify’s AI DJ feature has driven engagement and growth, showcasing the company’s disciplined approach to AI investments.
Investors responded positively to Spotify’s Q3 performance, with shares rising over 10% after exceeding subscriber expectations. With monthly users surpassing 640 million and strong revenue growth, Spotify’s upcoming initiatives are set to further enhance the user experience and drive value for both consumers and creators.
