Facebook has announced that it will soon support passkeys on both iOS and Android devices. Passkey logins provide an additional layer of security by requiring physical access to your phone, making it more challenging for unauthorized users to remotely access your accounts.

Passkeys use various authentication methods such as Face ID, Touch ID, a PIN, or a physical security key to validate logins, eliminating the need for traditional username and password combinations that are susceptible to phishing attacks.

The social network also plans to extend passkey support to Messenger in the coming months, allowing users to use the same passkey for both services. Additionally, passkeys can be used to autofill payment information when using Meta Pay for purchases.

To set up a passkey, users can navigate to the “passkey” option in the Accounts Center within the Settings menu on Facebook. While passkeys offer enhanced security, users can still access their accounts using other authentication methods if their device does not support passkeys.
