ChatGPT’s mobile app is making serious cash. Since its launch in May 2023, the app for iOS and Android has reached a whopping $2 billion in global consumer spending. That’s about 30 times more than its closest rivals like Claude, Copilot, and Grok combined.
### Crushing the Competition
This year alone, ChatGPT has made $1.35 billion, a massive 673% increase from last year. The app now pulls in close to $193 million per month, a huge jump from $25 million last year. Grok, the closest competitor, made only $25.6 million this year so far, with a monthly average of $3.6 million.
### The Numbers Game
ChatGPT’s lifetime global spending per download is $2.91, leaving others like Claude, Grok, and Copilot in the dust. In the U.S., the app’s spending per download is even higher at $10, making up 38% of its total revenue. Germany comes in second at 5.3%.
### Dominating the Downloads
ChatGPT has been downloaded around 690 million times worldwide, compared to Grok’s 39.5 million. Elon Musk’s complaints about ChatGPT’s dominance in the App Store’s Top Charts seem justified with these numbers. Monthly downloads now sit at around 45 million globally, up 180% from last year.
In 2025, the app has been downloaded 318 million times, a significant increase from 113 million last year. India leads the way in installs, accounting for 13.7% of all downloads, with the U.S. in second place at 10.3%.
