OpenAI might be dropping an “AI agent” tool in January. Bloomberg spilled the beans on OpenAI’s upcoming software, codenamed “Operator,” which could soon be making moves on your computer. This tool is expected to start off as a research preview available through OpenAI’s developer API.
What’s the Competition?
Operator will be entering the ring alongside Anthropic’s Computer Use feature and Google’s rumored consumer-focused agent, among others. Will OpenAI have the upper hand? It’s still up in the air, but Bloomberg hints that Operator could be a versatile tool for tackling tasks in a web browser.
Policy Paper and Beyond
Interestingly, news about Operator dropped on the same day as OpenAI’s policy paper on U.S. AI strategy. The paper suggests creating AI-focused “economic zones” to boost AI infrastructure and forming alliances to rival China in the AI race.
Exciting times ahead for OpenAI and AI enthusiasts!
