Waymo is ramping up its winter testing of autonomous vehicles, taking its robotaxis to snowy locales for real-world trials. In the past, Waymo has tested its cars in Michigan and Buffalo. This year, Waymo is expanding its testing grounds to Truckee, California; Upstate New York; and various areas in Michigan.
Winter Testing in Multiple Locations
Waymo is pushing the boundaries of its self-driving technology by testing its fifth- and sixth-generation Driver in winter conditions. The sixth-generation Driver is equipped with sensors designed to melt snow off them, ensuring optimal performance in cold weather.
Human Safety Driver on Board
While details of the tests remain limited, one thing is certain – each test will have a human safety driver ready to take control if needed. Waymo is committed to ensuring the safety of its autonomous vehicles as they navigate through challenging winter environments.
