Reddit Experiences Significant Outages

On Monday morning, the popular social network and forum site Reddit faced significant outages. According to Downdetector, a website that collects reports from impacted users globally, connection errors began around 11:20 a.m. ET. At its peak, over 90,000 users reported an outage with the downtime tracking website.

Issue Identified and Resolved

Reddit Status, the company’s website tracking its own outages, confirmed at 11:52 a.m. ET that they were investigating “elevated errors” across the website and app. Shortly after, the issue was identified, and by 12:10 p.m. ET, a fix was implemented. By 12:21 p.m. ET, Reddit Status indicated that all systems were operational again.

Statement from Reddit Spokesperson

A Reddit spokesperson commented on the outage, stating that they were briefly unable to connect to one of their databases, causing the issue. They quickly deployed a fix and were back up and running. This was not the first time Reddit had reported such “elevated errors,” with similar issues occurring multiple times in February and recently.
