At the WWDC 2025 event, Apple unveiled the latest version of Xcode, its comprehensive app development suite. This new version integrates OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology, allowing developers to utilize AI for coding, documentation generation, and various other tasks. Additionally, Apple announced that developers now have the capability to use API keys to incorporate AI models from external providers into Xcode, enabling AI-powered programming suggestions.
New Features in Xcode 26
According to a blog post by Apple, developers can seamlessly integrate AI models into their coding workflow within Xcode 26. This integration enables developers to write code, tests, documentation, refine designs, troubleshoot errors, and more directly within the Xcode environment.

With the inclusion of AI tools in Xcode, developers now have access to features such as code preview generation and task automation. ChatGPT integration in Xcode is available without the need for an account, although users with paid ChatGPT subscriptions can link their accounts to enhance functionality through increased rate limits.
Apple’s AI Initiatives
In addition to the Xcode enhancements, Apple introduced the Foundation Models framework, allowing developers to leverage the company’s on-device AI models. Apple highlighted that developers can easily access these models with just three lines of code and emphasized the compatibility of running local models on devices powered by Apple Silicon.
Although rumors suggested a potential collaboration between Apple and Anthropic for a vibe-coding software, Apple ultimately opted for integrating ChatGPT into Xcode. It is worth noting that Apple had previously showcased Swift Assist, a coding assistant for Xcode, but its widespread release did not materialize.
