The main Reuters news account and the Reuters World account were temporarily inaccessible to users in India over the weekend, but access was restored on Sunday. Indian users trying to view the @Reuters account with 25 million followers saw a message saying it was withheld in India due to a legal demand. The Indian government denied making such a demand and stated they were working with Reuters to resolve the issue.
The social media platform, which recently merged with xAI, has been at odds with the Indian government over demands to block accounts and posts. In March, they even sued the government over alleged censorship. Last year, the platform faced a similar situation in Brazil.
Despite requests for comments, neither X nor Reuters immediately responded. The post has been updated to reflect the restoration of the Reuters accounts.
