Google has announced the addition of a new “Audio Overview” feature to its AI note-taking and research app, NotebookLM. This feature allows users to listen to summaries of the documents they upload to the app, such as course readings or legal briefs.

The AI-generated virtual hosts use conversational speech patterns to provide summaries, share facts, and explain complex concepts using metaphors. Users can generate audio conversations by opening an existing notebook, navigating to the Notebook guide, and clicking on the “generate” button.

Currently, the feature is only available in English, and users can also download the conversations to listen to them on the go. Google notes that the audio conversations are still in beta, so there may be inaccuracies.

NotebookLM was first introduced as Project Tailwind at Google I/O in June 2023 and later made available to users above 18 in the U.S. in December. It is now accessible in over 200 countries and supports more than 108 languages.
