Nvidia is not optimistic about the U.S. lifting its chip export restrictions to China anytime soon. CEO Jensen Huang stated that they are so certain about this that they are not including the Chinese market in their revenue and profit forecasts. Huang mentioned in an interview with CNN that he is not banking on the Trump administration reversing its chip export controls, considering it as a potential “bonus” if they do.
Impact of Restrictions on Nvidia’s Revenue
The Trump administration imposed licensing requirements for Nvidia’s H20 chips, which are the most advanced AI chips they could sell to China, back in April. As a result, the company estimated an $8 billion hit to its revenue in the second quarter due to these restrictions. When asked about this situation, a Nvidia spokesperson referred to Huang’s earlier comments about China during the company’s Q1 earnings call.
