Anthropic has revoked OpenAI’s access to its Claude family of AI models, according to a report in Wired. Sources revealed that OpenAI was utilizing Claude to compare its performance in coding, writing, and safety with its own models. This led to a breach of Anthropic’s terms of service, as OpenAI’s technical staff were reportedly using their coding tools in preparation for the launch of GPT-5.
Industry Standard Usage
In response, Anthropic stated that they would still allow OpenAI access for benchmarking and safety evaluations, despite cutting off API access. On the other hand, OpenAI defended their actions as “industry standard,” expressing disappointment in Anthropic’s decision. The tensions between the two companies had already been evident, with Anthropic’s executives hesitant to provide access to competitors like OpenAI.
