Bedrock Robotics, a startup specializing in autonomous vehicle technology founded by former employees of Waymo and Segment, has been quietly operating for over a year. Recently, the company made headlines with an $80 million funding round from investors Eclipse and 8VC.

The company’s focus is on developing a self-driving kit that can be added to construction and other worksite vehicles. This announcement confirms previous reports from TechCrunch in May. Bedrock aims to enhance existing fleets with sensors, computing power, and intelligent technology that can understand project objectives, adapt to changing conditions, and work continuously.

Led by CEO Boris Sofman, who previously worked on Waymo’s self-driving trucks program, Bedrock Robotics also includes other former Waymo employees in key positions. The company is taking a unique approach to off-road autonomy, joining other startups in applying self-driving technology to construction, mining, industrial, and defense sectors.
