A startup known as Superpower has recently introduced what it claims to be the world’s first super app aimed at helping individuals better understand and manage their health. For a fee of $499, the startup offers biannual lab testing that examines over 100 blood biomarkers in 21 categories, providing a more detailed view of one’s health compared to a standard physical examination. Members can undergo these tests twice a year, either at home or at one of Superpower’s 2,000 partner labs nationwide.
Superpower’s web app analyzes the test results in conjunction with past medical records, fitness tracker data, and genetics using AI technology to generate a personalized health overview, highlighting any potential concerns and offering an action plan to empower individuals to take charge of their health. The company was founded in 2023 by Jacob Peters, Max Marchione, and Kevin Unkrich, who were inspired by their own struggles with the healthcare system, recognizing the significant number of Americans affected by conditions that could have been addressed earlier with the right information.
The biannual lab testing provided by Superpower aids in understanding various aspects of health, including nutrient levels, hormone balance, and metabolic health, which are crucial for energy, fertility, and overall well-being. Members also have the option to access additional specialty tests for an added fee, such as gut microbiome analysis and Grail cancer screening to detect various types of cancer before symptoms manifest.
The app features a Superpower Score and Biological Age function to monitor overall health progress and pinpoint areas for improvement. Following the receipt of personalized health results, members are connected to a marketplace of healthcare service providers through Superpower and can reach out to a 24/7 AI and human hybrid concierge care team for personalized guidance.
While Superpower is not intended to replace traditional doctor visits, the startup envisions itself as a go-to destination for health-related queries. The company recently announced a $30 million Series A funding round led by Forerunner, with support from celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens, Steve Aoki, and NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo, among others. Superpower has a waitlist of 150,000 people and aims to expand its app to a wider audience with its public launch, while also planning to launch iOS and Android apps in the future.
