Sales of Tesla’s Cybertruck have declined significantly from their peak last year, with the GMC Hummer EV outselling it in the second quarter. Tesla sold 4,306 Cybertrucks, slightly below the 4,508 Hummers sold by GMC. Ford’s F-150 Lightning was the best-selling electric truck in the US in the first quarter, surpassing both. The GMC Hummer includes sales of both the pickup truck and SUV variant, while Rivian’s R1T also struggled. Cybertruck sales peaked at nearly 17,000 in the third quarter of 2024 but have since declined rapidly. The reasons for this decline, whether due to Elon Musk’s image or the Cybertruck’s high price compared to the promised $40,000, are unclear. Musk acknowledged the challenges, stating, “We dug our own grave with Cybertruck.”
