Elon Musk’s X Struggling on Android Devices

According to new data from app intelligence provider Appfigures, Elon Musk’s X is facing challenges in terms of new installs on Android devices, while App Store downloads continue to grow. In July 2025, X downloads on Google Play experienced a significant decline, with new installs dropping by 44% year-over-year worldwide, while iOS downloads increased by 15%.

Efforts to Address Issues on Android

The decline in installs on Android devices has led to a 26% decrease in total mobile downloads year-over-year as of July. Recently, X hired Nikita Bier as the head of product, known for growth hacking teen social apps like Gas and TBH. Bier has hinted at addressing issues on Android, where the X app is known to be buggy and prone to crashes.

Bier announced the formation of an “Android Dream Team” at X to rebuild the Android app. Despite the challenges on Android, X’s iOS app recently achieved record installs. The company is focusing on addressing these issues to improve its performance on Android devices.
