Drone Collides with Firefighting Plane in Los Angeles
Capturing video of a wildfire may be tempting, but flying a drone into an active blaze can have dangerous consequences. This was evident in Los Angeles on January 9, when a drone collided with a “Super Scooper” firefighting plane, as reported by The LA Times.
Consequences of the Collision
The incident occurred during Los Angeles’ worst wildfire in history, which has destroyed thousands of homes and claimed at least 10 lives. The collision forced the firefighting plane to abort its mission and land elsewhere for repairs. Photos of the damaged wing were shared on social media by Erik Scott:

Authorities are now investigating the drone operator responsible for the collision. The LA Fire Department has issued warnings that flying drones during firefighting operations can result in severe penalties, including up to 12 months in jail or a $75,000 fine.
