Microsoft is making it easier for developers to create AI-powered apps on Windows devices with the introduction of Windows AI Foundry. This unified platform for local AI development allows developers to fine-tune, optimize, and deploy AI models on Windows apps.
AI is increasingly seen as a major profit driver for Microsoft, with CEO Satya Nadella stating that the company has $13 billion in annualized AI revenue. By offering resources to simplify the development of AI software on Windows, Microsoft aims to create a thriving ecosystem and outshine its competitors.
Windows AI Foundry includes Foundry Local, a service that brings the power of AI models to client devices. This service automatically detects a Windows machine’s hardware and fetches the necessary components to run specific AI models. Foundry Local also supports macOS and comes with modules to run AI models directly on-device, using the ONXX Runtime.
Developers can use command-line interface support to interact with models running on a local server, making it easier to browse, test, and integrate AI models in their apps. Foundry Local SDK allows developers to easily integrate Foundry Local into their applications.
