In the competitive landscape of integrating AI features into productivity apps, Slack is enhancing its search capabilities with AI features. This includes adding transcription and summaries for huddles, as well as providing recaps of channels and threads.

Through AI technology, Slack now enables users to search across channels and connected apps such as Google Drive, Salesforce, and Teams to easily access relevant files and conversations. These features are exclusive to Slack’s Enterprise plans.

Additionally, AI is being utilized to enhance Huddles, Slack’s voice and video chat feature, by providing call transcriptions, summaries, and automatically highlighting key action items discussed during calls.

To assist users in catching up on conversations, Slack will offer message summaries within a channel or thread if they were away. The company also announced plans to introduce a feature for users to view a summary of another user’s profile, displaying their role and recent work. Moreover, there are upcoming features in the Activities tab to highlight action items when a message mentions the user.

Slack is developing a feature that will leverage AI to explain messages within the context of a conversation. Additionally, for Canvas, a collaborative panel for sharing guides and documents, an AI-powered writing assistant is in the works to aid users in creating canvases or modifying content formatting.

The app is also undergoing a design overhaul to provide a unified space for all shared files, lists, and Canvas items.

The story is updated to clarify that Slack offers AI search with integrations only to Enterprise customers.
