OpenAI partners with Cisco and Oracle to create UAE data center

As speculated, OpenAI is extending its ambitious Stargate data center project to the Middle East.

The company recently announced Stargate UAE, a 1GW data center cluster set to be established in Abu Dhabi. OpenAI plans to launch 200MW by 2026 in collaboration with partners like G42, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and SoftBank.

According to a blog post by OpenAI, Stargate UAE holds the potential to offer AI infrastructure and computing capabilities within a 2,000-mile radius.

In an effort to help governments develop sovereign AI capabilities, OpenAI introduced its new global initiative, Countries. The UAE will be the first country to implement ChatGPT nationwide through this partnership, granting its citizens access to OpenAI’s technology.

The announcement of Stargate UAE coincides with Elon Musk’s revelation that his AI company, xAI, plans to construct the world’s inaugural “gigawatt” AI training cluster.
