Google Photos is stepping up its AI game. The latest update brings a host of new features that let users get even more creative with their photo memories. Now, you can easily turn your photos into videos and remix them into different styles like anime, comics, sketches, or 3D animations.
Centralizing access to these creative tools in a new “Create” tab within the Photos app, Google is making it easier for users to experiment with AI-powered and traditional tools alike. This update will put the power of AI into the hands of over 1.5 billion Google Photos users, giving them a chance to play around with new features and provide valuable feedback to improve the overall experience.
One of the standout features is the photo-to-video option, which allows users to create short videos from their own photos using Google’s Veo 2 model. Additionally, the Remix feature powered by Google’s Imagen AI model lets you transform any photo from your gallery into a different style in just seconds.
Both features will include an invisible SynthID digital watermark to identify them as AI-generated. The Create tab will be rolling out in the U.S. in August, with Google promising to update it with new tools and experiments over time.
These AI features are not just limited to Google Photos, as YouTube Shorts is also introducing its own photo-to-video option and new AI effects powered by Veo 2, with Veo 3 set to be available later this summer. Exciting times ahead for both platforms!
