Although an edge processor may not match the capabilities of advanced Nvidia chips, its debut signifies a significant technological achievement for Malaysia as the nation aims to enhance its role in the global AI competition.

## Malaysia’s Focus on AI Development

Malaysia has established a strong presence in the chip manufacturing sector and has intensified its focus and investment in artificial intelligence. Notably, the country established the Malaysian National AI Office in late 2024, a regulatory body tasked with advancing AI adoption, developing regulatory frameworks for AI utilization, and promoting AI ethics.

Under this regulation, individuals and businesses must obtain trade permits for exporting or transshipping U.S.-produced AI chips, requiring prior notification to the Malaysian government at least 30 days in advance.
