Since 2020, iPhone users have been dealing with problems integrating Google Assistant with Waze on iOS. The company has been struggling for over a year to fix these issues, causing a lot of inconvenience for users. But hey, no worries, Waze finally decided to pull the plug on this feature last Wednesday.

What went wrong?

Many users took to Reddit to complain that when they tried to use the microphone button to speak, nothing happened, even though Assistant seemed to hear their voice. Frustrating, right?

What’s next?

But don’t fret, Waze is working on a new “enhanced voice interaction solution” that will hopefully make things smoother for iPhone users in the near future. Plus, they’ve been testing out a cool AI-powered “Conversational Reporting” feature since October 2024, allowing some lucky users to report incidents using their voice.

And hey, the timing couldn’t be better, as Google recently announced that they’re moving more users from Assistant to Gemini. So, it looks like Assistant will be slowly phased out on most mobile devices and app stores by the end of the year. But hey, don’t worry Android users, you can still enjoy Google Assistant on Waze for now. Cheers! 🚗🗣️
