Proton’s fresh AI assistant prioritizes privacy, encrypts all conversations, and doesn’t store any data

Privacy-focused productivity tools maker Proton has recently launched its AI assistant, Lumo, with a strong emphasis on protecting user data.

Lumo boasts features such as no conversation logs, end-to-end encryption for chats, and a ghost mode for disappearing conversations. It is accessible via web client, Android, and iOS apps, without the need for an account. Users can also upload files for the chatbot to provide answers about them and integrate their Proton Drive account for cloud storage access.

Proton highlights Lumo’s use of open-source models and zero-access encryption, ensuring user privacy. The company’s European base is touted as a competitive advantage in terms of privacy compared to AI companies in the U.S. and China.

In addition to Lumo, Proton previously introduced an AI-powered writing assistant for its Mail product, further solidifying its presence in the AI tools space.
